Katarina Witt began ice skating at age five. It was not long before her abilities became apparent and then in Karl-Marx-Stadt she was accepted into the school that was specifically made for kids with sporting talents. At this school she got to know their coach Jutta Muler. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Then, she was dominating the sport with elegance and grace. Olympic victory At the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female silver medal in figure skating following an intense contest. In a more competitive competition, afterward, she took home the gold medal. The free skate she took was an unbeatable loss. However, her gold medal resulted from the performance she put in both the compulsory figures (short programme) and mandatory figures. Witt became the very first time a repeat woman to win the women's figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was able to return to skating after her success in the film industry as an actor. Witt competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win the medal. It was in 1995 that Witt received her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
